SWAC Football Players of the Week (Nov. 20, 22)

swac.gifOFFENSIVE - QB Kevin Atkins, Alabama A&M; 6-0, 222; SO; Durham, NC

Atkins completed 24-of-35 passes for 357 yards with five touchdowns and also rushed for two touchdowns in a 58-23 win over Mississippi Valley St. Atkins threw touchdown passes of 13, 28, 4,15, and 18 and tallied two touchdown runs of 1-yard each.

DEFENSIVE - DE Marcus Benard, Jackson State; 6-4, 260; SR, Ypsilani, MI

Benard made a team-high 11 tackles (two for loss), with 0.5 sacks in the Tigers’ 26-21 win over Alcorn State. Benard set the JSU single-season sack record with his 1/2 sack in the second half.

NEWCOMER - RB Luther Edwards, Jackson State; 5-8, 225; FR, Yahoo City, MS

Edwards rushed 24 times for 96 yards in win over Alcorn State. Edwards led JSU in rushing as the Tigers won their sixth straight game.

SPECIALIST – K Jeremy Licea, Alabama A&M; 5-7, 147; JR, Ventura, CA

Licea made 7-of-8 PATs and his only field goal attempt in the Bulldogs win over Mississippi Valley State. Licea made a 25-yard field goal and seven PATs as the Bulldogs tied for the conference high in points this year.
