Free Jackson State and Southern

With the annual SWAC meetings underway in Houston, Ross Dellenger of the Clarion-Ledger reported that the SWAC Council of Presidents will vote “to ban or not to ban Jackson State and Southern University from the SWAC football championship game.” The news comes on the heels of the NCAA imposing postseason football bans on both programs due to low APR results.

If SWAC presidents were smart, they would vote not to ban Jackson State and Southern from participating in the football conference championship game.

Why not?

Jackson State, Southern along with Grambling State, are the most storied entities in the SWAC and historically black college university athletics. These schools are the biggest draws in the conference and throughout black college football.

If the championship game is the marquee event for the league, why ruin interest by removing two of the potential largest money makers?
