The current NCAA Tourney field is 65. Call the 1st game of the tourney what ever you please but UAPB broke the dubious 17 game losing streak that the SWAC owned in the tourney. It is not a bad thing to have the national spotlight for one night and a tally a victory if one considers the alternative which is a quick exit from the tourney coupled with the contiunity of the aforementioned losing streak. There is no balance financially between the have and have nots in college athletics. We are left with the lesser of two evils during the regular season: Schedule smarter and hopefully gain a higher RPI or take the money to assist our other non revenue sports programs and continue with low seeding.....Tough Call (We are who we are)

I always call it a Play In game because thats exactly what it is: you have to WIN to get to play in the field of 64.

And the worst thing about it is that its two conference tourney winners that have to play each other... thats bogus. They should just eliminate one of the 34 at-large bids or make the last two at-large teams play each other. I think the first option is a lot more fair to the two team stuck in playing in the PLAY-IN game.

Yeah, the name is dumb but SWAC teams need to follow the lead of UAPB and come to win the game. We're stuck with the game(until our ADs learn the simple art of preseason scheduling) so might as well win it.

This should be a good hire for ASU. I played for Coach Spears at Morgan State University and I can say first hand that while you have to get used to his personality and his way of doing things, he is a good coach that players can learn a lot from. Personally, he and I didn't see eye to eye most of the time but in hindsight, I learned a heck of a lot from him and I find myself teaching guys that I now coach some of the same things that he taught me. Anyone who has played for this man can tall you that no one is more thorough in their preparation and that he has great passion for this game. Good Luck Coach Spears!

On a separate post I was reading that some Veteran SU Football players may not retain their scholarships because they were late for practice. Just wondering; If an Engineering Student is late for class, will he/her lose their scholarship??

While I still think Spivery has done a poor job, he and SU didn't stand a chance in tonight's 9-point loss. AlaSt shoots 37 free shots, SU shoots 15. AlaSt has 14 fouls, SU has 25 and top 2 scorers foul out. SWAC Referees at their best.

What is the problem, Greg LaFluer - FIRE SPIVERY NOW and get an early start on a replacement. Losing a 13-point 2nd half lead at home is totally a lack of coaching. FIRE THE MAN!!! (Is the problem that you don't have a "buddy" already lined up???
