Alabama A&M 58, Mississippi Valley State 23
ITTA BENA, MS - Scoring came early and often as Alabama A&M and Mississippi Valley State met in the final regular-season game for both teams. By the time the afternoon was complete, the Bulldogs had defeated the Delta Devils 58-23.
AAMU QB Kevin Atkins accounted for seven touchdowns (five passing, two rushing) as the Bulldogs pushed their conference record to 4-3.
Atkins found WR Thomas Harris for the first two scores of the game (13 and 28 yards) and for the final score of the game - an 18-yard scoring play with just over two minutes remaining.

Afam Muojeke scored 23 points as Wyoming held off Prairie View A&M in the final seconds of an 80-75 win Wednesday night. Tyson Johnson added 20 points and Brandon Ewing scored 14 for the Cowboys (2-0).
Wyoming led 34-31 at the break, and the game stayed close throughout the second half. The Cowboys, who led 76-75 with 1:30 remaining, sealed the win in the final seconds on two free throws and a put-back basket by Johnson. Read the rest »

BIRMINGHAM - The Southwestern Athletic Conference Council of Presidents and Chancellors today approved the coin flip procedure for the final step of the conference’s three-team tie breaker for football.
The procedure would be put in place only if Grambling State defeats Texas Southern Thursday, Nov. 20, and loses to Southern on Saturday, Nov. 29. If that occurs, Grambling State, Prairie View A&M and Southern would finish with identical 6-1 records in SWAC play. In following the three-team tie breaker procedure, none of the previous six steps would eliminate one team from the other two.

OFFENSIVE - RB Donald Babers, Prairie View A&M; 5-9, 170; JR; Houston, TX
Babers rushed 26 times for 198 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 37-3 win over Alcorn State.
Babers scored touchdowns on runs of 2 and 15 yards, and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a third score.
DEFENSIVE – DE Marcus Benard, Jackson State; 6-4, 260; SR, Ypsilani, MI
Benard made a game-high 14 tackles (five for loss), with 3.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown in the Tigers’ 37-21 win over Alabama A&M.

Day One Recap (Friday, November 14, 2008)
Match One: Alabama A&M d. Prairie View A&M 3-2
Karensa Beckford tallied 18 kills, six digs and five blocks while all-conference performer Madinah Abdullah finished with 11 kills, 16 digs and three blocks as the defending tournament champion AAMU Bulldogs won their opening-round match against 2006 tournament champion Prairie View A&M.
The Lady Panthers jumped out in the first set 25-17 before AAMU won the second by the same margin. The teams traded wins in the third and fourth sets before Alabama A&M won the fifth set 17-15.

HOUSTON – First year women’s basketball head coach Yolanda Wells-Broughton started a new era in Lady Tiger basketball with a 51-39 season opening victory over the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns on Friday night at Delmar Fieldhouse.
TSU (1-0) was led by a strong team defensive performance as they held the Ragin’ Cajuns to 14-49 shooting and pressured them into committing 28 turnovers. Guard Trikeyia East (5-9, Jr., Houston) had a team-high nine rebounds in 39 minutes of play. Forward Inisha Daugtry (6-0, Jr., Dallas) added three key blocks late in the second half to seal the double-digit win for the Lady Tigers.
